Weekly Roundup 6.2.19

My husband, 1995 Maryland State Orienteering Champion, took us on a hike over Memorial Day weekend to a place called Hidden Lake. It used to be a PLEASURE RESORT (!!), but now it’s a state park connected to Narrows of the Harpeth. It’s a great, tree-lined 2-ish mile hike - very doable. Plus, there’s a hidden lake, a train car inexplicably buried in the ground and an old dance floor from the 1930’s.

I took last weekend off from blogging, so some of the links on this post are 2 weeks old (gasp!). Pop culture convos move so fast on Twitter that I forget in real life, a lot of us still haven’t watched the thing that came out last year. What I’m saying is, if you haven’t watched Fleabag yet, it’s okay.

Here are some things that entered my orbit over the last 2 weeks.

Okay, Fleabag, duh. Look, I liked Season One, but apparently a lot of you didn’t. That’s okay! Watch Season Two. It’s so good, plus, if you haven’t seen it, you’re missing out on a lot of high quality memes.

I love John Waters and even have a garland of his faces hanging over the white board in my office. He was on Fresh Air recently to promote his new book and the interview is so funny. Terry Gross asks him something about why he’s gotten tamer in his old age and he says, “I have 3 homes!”.

I realize I randomly talk about standup comedy IRL, but never write about how much I love standup and how long I’ve been watching it and studying it. There’s a new Wanda Sykes standup special on Netflix and it’s hilarious, especially if you’re in my age and political-leaning range.

Lol this entire essay on internet cures for depression, but especially this sentence: “I’ve had some itching and burning issues down there, but it’s so worth it to be freed from the clutches of my lifelong disease by a spice.” God bless you, McSweeney’s.

Facts: Donna Tartt is one of my favorite authors, and I loved The Goldfinch. Don’t @ me. The first trailer for The Goldfinch movie is out and I cried. I’m actually not sure I can watch this movie because of the bombing scenes, but I may try. Okay, nevermind, it comes out on September 13, so no, I will not be watching this movie that week.

Speaking of things I can’t emotionally handle, I watched the entire first season of Pose again. I have no idea what’s happening to me with this tv show. It’s the only way I’m capable of feeling feelings right now. I also watched the related documentary, Susanne Bartsch: On Top. It’s fascinating! I’m watching Paris Is Burning right now. Just let me live in this emotional wormhole. I’ll come out when I’m ready.
